Explore the Arts and Express YourselfCelebrating 50 Years of Reflections
Explore the last 50 years of the Reflections program and learn about the impact Reflections has had on students, families, and communities since the program was founded in 1969.
For 50 years, National PTA’s Reflections program has helped students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.
Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response a student-selected theme.

From Art to Exhibit
Student winners from the local level have the opportunity to move up through their district, region, council and state PTA programs to the national level. National Reflections winners are announced in May and celebrated annually at National PTA's Convention & Expo in June. National PTA then collects and curates the traveling exhibit for the next year. To learn more, visit our Awards Page.
Students can participate in the annual Theme Search Contest according to State PTA Reflections Program guidelines.
It's easy to participate:
1. Reflect on this year's theme: Look Within.
2. Create an original work inspired by the theme.

The National PTA Reflections program is PTA’s cornerstone arts program. It was developed in 1969 by Colorado’s PTA President Mary Lou Anderson to encourage students to explore their talents and express themselves. Since then, the Reflections Program has inspired millions of students to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork.
Each year, students in Grades Pre-K through 12 are recognized for bringing the theme to life through dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. Students are recognized at the Local, Council/Region, State, and National PTA levels. At each level, all entries are judged on interpretation of the theme, creativity, and artistic merit. In 2012, the Special Artist Division emerged as an optional division for students whose physical, cognitive, or mental health challenges meet ADA guidelines.
Students may enter any or all of the six art categories. Multiple entries within a single arts category is permitted. Each entry must be the original work of one student and created specifically for the Reflections program based on the national theme.
Students at Seven Lakes High School are eligible to participate in the Reflections program. Please contact our Reflections committee for more information. The Texas PTA website provides General Entry Information and Guidelines for Arts Categories in English and in Spanish.
If you would like to see examples of entries that were awarded at the state level of judging last year, please visit the Reflections Gallery. Additional information is available at the Texas PTA and National PTA websites.
