The 2018-2019 program theme is "Heroes Around Me." Encourage students to think about and explore the theme. Teachers can use the theme with classroom lessons while parents can use the theme to spark conversation at home.
Students can participate in the annual Theme Search Contest according to State PTA Reflections Program guidelines. One winning theme will be selected in 2019 and used as the Reflections program theme during the 2020-2021 school year.
Students in Pre-K through Grade 12 are encouraged to participate in the 2018-2019 National PTA Reflections Awards!
It's easy to participate:
1. Reflect on this year's theme: Heroes Around Me.
2. Create an original work inspired by the theme.
3. Celebrate your achievements and win prizes!
If you have a creative streak and wish to submit a piece of your work, you can submit it in any of these six categories: Literature, Visual Arts, Photography, Musical Composition, Dance Choreography, or Film Production. The theme for the 2016-2017 school year is Within Reach
The National PTA Reflections program is PTA’s cornerstone arts program. It was developed in 1969 by Colorado’s PTA President Mary Lou Anderson to encourage students to explore their talents and express themselves. Since then, the Reflections Program has inspired millions of students to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork.
Each year, students in Grades Pre-K through 12 are recognized for bringing the theme to life through dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. Students are recognized at the Local, Council/Region, State, and National PTA levels. At each level, all entries are judged on interpretation of the theme, creativity, and artistic merit. In 2012, the Special Artist Division emerged as an optional division for students whose physical, cognitive, or mental health challenges meet ADA guidelines.
Students may enter any or all of the six art categories. Multiple entries within a single arts category is permitted. Each entry must be the original work of one student and created specifically for the Reflections program based on the national theme.
Students at Seven Lakes High School are eligible to participate in the Reflections program. Please contact our Reflections committee for more information. The Texas PTA website provides General Entry Information and Guidelines for Arts Categories in English and in Spanish. If you would like to see examples of entries that were awarded at the state level of judging last year, please visit the 2014-2015 Reflections Gallery. Additional information is available at the Texas PTA and National PTA websites.
